A Guide to Conservation in
Maryland's Coastal Plains
Our Mission
The first step to tackle any problem is to inspire interest and care for the issue at hand. Only when there is an active concern for Earth's natural wonders and their inherent importance in all aspects of life can communities make an impact to save and conserve our shared planet. We hope that this project will encourage members of the Severna Park and larger Maryland community to find joy in the environment around them. By familiarizing our community with our ecosystems and providing an interactive and accessible source of information, we aim to not only give students a place to learn, but also to give them the necessary tools to make a change. This website aims to provide our community the inspiration and knowledge they need to interact with and improve their environment.

About
For our senior year of high school, we knew we wanted to create a project that combined our artistic endeavors with our passion for the environment. This website is that project. We hope that as you peruse through the pages, you can learn to love the Cascade Falls Trail of Patapsco Valley State Park, the overturned horseshoe crabs at the edge of the shore in Terrapin Nature Area, the brilliant innovation of Harbor Wetland, and the many, many more marvels that make up Maryland's natural world. This project has changed and helped us in so many ways, and we hope that the final product inspires you to find a way to engage with your local environment.
This website has three sections: locations, wildlife, and conservation. Our location pages are places we visited across MD and wrote about based on our experiences. You'll find photography including the expansive views and the tiniest details and anecdotes from our time there. We highly encourage you to go make memories of your own at these places after reading ours.
Our wildlife pages are more informative articles about a select few species we found integral to MD's ecosystems. The pages are still visually engaging though, so make sure to scroll through and learn something new about an animal you might see every day.
Our conservation pages are interviews we conducted with a couple of individuals engaged in local conservation efforts, and we hope you enjoy reading their impactful answers to the questions we posed.
Take your time on this website, and we hope you leave it with more knowledge, empathy, and wonder than you entered it with. Love, Sam and Olivia.
